Colombia was one of the three countries that emerged from the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830 (the others are Ecuador and Venezuela). A 40-year insurgent campaign to overthrow the Colombian Government escalated during the 1990s, undergirded in part by funds from the drug trade.
Poor Colombians. As if half a century of civil war, cocaine lords and kidnapping wasn’t enough, they now have to contend with investment fraud. Like the Albanians in 1997 and the Indians who fell for the promises of Amway, rural Colombians have just been taken to the cleaners by unscrupulous schemers.
Colombia is not nearly as beautiful as Mexico. We do have some undeveloped spots in north Guajira that I would consider really beautiful. I don’t think we got the best looking women in the planet, not by a long shot, like most gringos here claim.
Catholicism doesn’t get in the way too much of having a good time in Colombia . It’s a modern country and full of life though it’s traditional to get to know someone gradually.
There seems to be some kind of conveyor belt in Colombia which produces amazing brunettes. Colombians are family-orientated people and the guys are so famous for loving their mothers that a psychological condition was named after it. Many will only leave the house when they get married or move out of their hometown in search of work.
